The 2004 presidential scorecard is incomplete but early action tells American voters

that Senator John Kerry has been unable to shed the flip-flop image pinned on him by the Bush Administration. Credit “W” and his group of political henchmen for their spirited attacks on the Junior Senator from Massachusetts; they have cleverly edited out damning portions of previous speeches and weaved them into a winning message for George W. Bush. The tactic has kept Kerry on the defensive. His continuous counterpunching prevents him from throwing a political haymaker that will thwart the Bush assault. We have to remember that Mr. Kerry has a history of slow campaign starts but in the end, It{s the Vietnam Veteran standing in the winner’s circle. William Weld, a previous Kerry opponent, was expected to unseat his democratic counterpart but Kerry waged a gritty comeback and retained his senate seat. Weld was later nominated by President Clinton to become United States Ambassador to Mexico but his name was rejected for the post. The Bush Administration is questioning the Kerry resolve and this could be a mistake. Mr. Weld suggests that Kerry responds to personal attacks quickly and ferociously. In recent weeks, the Bush Administration has offered some negative spins on his war record and subsequent actions after his discharge. The Senator took the innuendos personally and responded with a verbal spin move of his own.



Everyone, except those poor souls who avoid news reports as if they were a plague, knows that Senator Kerry served in Vietnam and was honored with five medals for his acts of acknowledged heroism. The Bush Administration is jumping on allegations that the Democratic Candidate threw his medals away after being discharged. According to the always red, white and blue republicans; such an act would be inconceivable and comparable to treason. Politics and drama are compatible bedfellows. For the record, Kerry admits throwing away the ribbons that were attached to the medals. Vice president Cheney and republicans have called upon the Senator to prove to the American people that he still possesses the medals. The Massachusetts Senator, speaking through clenched teeth, advised our nations highest elected officials to explain their absence from a war that claimed the lives of more than 58.000 American men and women. Their refusal to clearly answer this question, according to Kerry, is more significant than the whereabouts of his medals. Where were they, is what he wants to know? ...
